World's Hardest "Job"

This is my 3rd year teaching and I'd like to start by saying... that is also a VERY hard job! But it has been far from a normal experience because well - the world :)

But the world's hardest "job" -- being a mom, especially the part about going back to work (if you choose) after maternity leave, summer vacation, whatever break is designated to you.

While I know there are SO many other parts of motherhood that are difficult, I am expressing from my point of view in this very moment and this is MY hard right now. This is also not a complaint about work or my family - it is simply reality.

I never really understood the details that went into being a mom and working. I never gave it much thought because I was never part of the journey. As I returned to work last May for 5 weeks after Maternity leave, it felt different but in the best way. I was excited to get back to the classroom, it was a hybrid model, so very little students were in the building (aka little to no behavior issues) , and family members were coming to the house each day to watch our Drewbie. Which means I didn't even have to wake him in the mornings and stir up emotions! ..... my emotions, not his

This year feels even MORE different..

While we we have a wonderful daycare provider caring for Drew day to day, I can't help but sit at my desk and in meetings wondering what funny sounds he's making and who he is smiling at. I love the individuality I have at work - I am not a mom and I am not a wife, both titles I LOVE, but I am Ms. Meyers (another title I love) teaching a subject I am so so SO passionate about.

I recognize I am not the first working mother and I know for sure I will not be the last working mother but I think we all deserve a gold medal, plates of freshly baked chocolate chip cookies, and pay raises!

(can you even imagine) !!!!!!!!!!

With that being said --

To all the moms who have dropped their kids off with puffy red eyes because you cried the whole way to day care - I feel for you & I've been there -- just yesterday :)

To all the moms who work from home with children in the next room - I'm sending you a hug!

To all the moms who are staying home with your littles - I commend you!

To all individuals that hope to be moms - I pray for you!

To all moms - You are seen, so loved, and I am so proud of all of you!

It really is the most rewarding "job" in the world --

What has been your hardest part?!

Love ya'll,

Jill and Drew
